چکیده
The efficacy and safety of definitive chemoradiotherapy (dCRT) for older patients with unresectable esophageal cancer (EC) have not been fully understood yet. aim our study was to evaluate the outcome toxicity in (65 years over) EC treated dCRT. From 4 Georgian centers a radiation oncology department, we identified 44 elderly suitable according criteria. Overall survival estimated from beginning treatment scored using CTCAE 5.0 median age 70.0 (range, 65-83 years), male predominance (77,3%) 59% were performance status ECOG 1. Because significant dysphagia (Grade 3-4) 9 underwent intervention (stenting or gastrostomy) before More than 2/3 squamous cell histological type (77,3%). Localization tumor equally distributed between middle lower parts esophagus (38.6%) 26 (59,1%) length more 5cm. majority had stage III disease (61,4%). Median 16.0 months (95% CI, 0-35.9). at 12months 24 53,7% 43,6% respectively. 15 (34%) are alive 2.1 5.4 after treatment. Statistically difference (p =0.011) OS found who received full (not reached) versus non-full dose RT 9.0 month 2.79-15.2). Additional analysis subgroups revealed elder subgroup (>75) highest OS, compared younger (65-70) intermediate groups (71-75) (p=0.001). most common adverse event Grade 3-4 leukopenia (43.2%) anemia (29.5%) esophagitis (27.3%) cases. results support feasibility dCRT carefully selected patients. Survival correlated complete therefore accurate selection is crucial better long-term survival. There an emerging need characterize "functional age" tailor decisions stratify outcomes based on factors other chronologic

Prediction of outcome with FDG-PET in definitive chemoradiotherapy for esophageal cancer
The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of ¹⁸F-fluoro-2-deoxy-glucose uptake positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) for the prediction of outcome in definitive chemoradiotherapy (CRT) for esophageal cancer. We enrolled 56 patients with esophageal cancer treated with definitive CRT and examined by FDG-PET before treatment. We examined the correlation of the maximum standardized upta...

PURPOSE We evaluated the relationship between dosimetric parameters (DPs) and the incidence of radiation pneumonitis (RP) and investigated the feasibility of a proposed treatment planning technique with the potential of reducing RP in esophageal cancer patients treated with definitive chemoradiotherapy using extended fields. PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 149 patients with locally advanced e...
متن کاملDefinitive Chemoradiotherapy with Capecitabine and Cisplatin in Patients with Esophageal Cancer: A Pilot Study
We aimed to evaluate the feasibility of concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT) with capecitabine and cisplatin in patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus. Eighteen patients with esophageal cancer were enrolled on the study. The chemotherapy during CRT consisted of two cycles of intravenous cisplatin of 60 mg/m(2) on day 1 and oral capecitabine 825 mg/m(2) twice daily from day 1 to 14...
متن کاملChemoradiotherapy as Definitive Treatment for Elderly Patients with Head and Neck Cancer
Background With the aging population and a rising incidence of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN), there is an emerging need for developing strategies to treat elderly patients. Patients and Methods We retrospectively analyzed 158 patients treated with definitive, concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT) for SCCHN. Clinicopathological characteristics, acute toxicities, and oncolog...
متن کاملTreatment outcomes of definitive chemoradiotherapy for patients with hypopharyngeal cancer
We analyzed the efficacy of definitive chemoradiotherapy (CRT) for patients with hypopharyngeal cancer (HPC). Subjects comprised 97 patients who were treated with definitive CRT from 1990 to 2006. Sixty-one patients (62.9%) with resectable disease who aimed to preserve the larynx received induction chemotherapy (ICT), whereas 36 patients (37.1%) with resectable disease who refused an operation ...
